Vera&John, a well-known online casino operator, has left the online Australian gambling market. This mean that it will no longer be offering Australian players access to its real-money gambling entertainment.
is the first operator to pull out of the Australian market, but it is not expected to be the only one. Due to the new online gambling legislation in the country, which prohibits offshore casinos from offering services to Aussie gamblers, it is likely that many online gambling providers who currently serve Australian consumers will be joining Vera&John in its exodus from Down Under. This is especially likely since any operator without a local license can face a penalty of up to $1,000,000.
According to an email the brand sent out to all its Australian customers, Vera and John’s sudden departure is explained as a “business decision.” As a result, the company informed players that they are no longer permitted to make deposits into their account and that all Australian accounts would officially be closed in one week. The company added that all remaining funds in the players’ accounts after the one week deadline will be transferred to the players’ preferred payments provider.
Now that Vera&John have flown the coup, many speculate that the next big name in the industry to say farewell to its Australian players is the world’s largest online poker site, PokerStars. The operator has already announced its future goodbye plans.
